Vintage Farmhouse Tables
Some people are just born to build. This is definitely the case with Janeene Elaine, a 55-year-old female woodworker raised in Greenwood, Indiana, and currently living in Whiteland on two acres with two dogs and two cats.
Janeene started building at age 17 and hasn’t stopped. “I had built smaller things, a door for my pantry, butcher blocks, cutting boards, etc, then when I moved to my farmhouse in 2008, I wanted new cabinets but didn’t have the money to buy them, so I built them. I built my first table in 2002, then in 2013 I built a second, and Vintage Farmhouse Tables was established ”.
Her Facebook page Vintage Farmhouse Tables has over 20,000 followers, and Janeene isn’t just building tables anymore, her work includes everything from the front door to the back door, where a home is concerned. She has many repeat customers and a constant stream of referrals.
She enjoys staying busy, but what she loves the most is the personal growth that comes from pushing herself. With a fearless ambition and a burning desire to always learn more, Janeene loves creating one-of-a-kind pieces. “I like to see what I’m capable of, in my wood shop, and in life.”
From her home, she also operates an Airbnb called The Vintage Farmhouse. In the Airbnb, her hand-painted signs on real wood frames are on display for decoration and purchase. The guests love the personal touch, and it allows them to take a piece of the farm home.
In 2018, inspired by a desire to live a long, healthy life and see her young grandson grow up, Janeene committed to a healthier lifestyle and published a plant-based cookbook.
Anyone who knows Janeene knows she has a huge heart. In 2023, she built a farmhouse shaped community food pantry stocked with shelf-stable foods for those in need. The cabinet dons the theme: The Farmhouse-Little Free Pantry. It sits outside her wood shop, accessible yet discrete, for those in need.
As if the furniture building, cookbook creating, Airbnb maintaining, and pantry stocking weren’t enough, Janeene recently opened a spray tan studio, Coco Bean Spray Tanning.
And lastly, although I don’t think it will be the end of her entrepreneurial endeavors, Janeene is now entering the field of project management. “When people ask what I do for fun, I say I work because it’s fun. I’m always working, my customers always come first and my phone is always on.”
